Structube Stores' Pages

Project Overview

In late November, we started pushing for a strong SEO game. A big part of SEO is content, content, content. One of the key places where we were lacking with this ability was the store pages. Although we had a custom module made to control basic store details, we were unable to put content into the store pages or search for a store. There were two key parts to this upgrade. One, implement an easy search mechanism that could take in an address, or use the web browser's location, take in a search distance, and output a list of nearest stores. Two, implement a wide range of widgets to boost the actual store pages content and SEO ranking.

The Challenge

  • Allow for store searching without increasing load time
  • Work with Magento framework to create dynamic widgets
  • The content needs to be optional
  • Open up the design and key options to Magento's Admin

The Strategy

  • Use asynchronous loading for google geocoding and searching
  • Integrate WYSIWYG editor widgets into store module
  • Failsafes for each block, making them optional.
  • Configurations can be controlled from the admin panel to easily adjust the way store pages work without having to change the code base.

Conclusion

A simple, easy to use search was used to allow for easy store location by either using an address or be geolocation. The store pages can now be loaded up with content. Google reviews were integrated to the pages, a gallery for each store, a wysiwyg editor where anything from text to videos can be dropped in, and the careers for that specific store. My job as the developer was done, now it's up to our copyrighters and marketing peeps to fill it up!
