DotMailer Integration

Project Overview

Email is one of the biggest marketing channels out there today and it's only getting better. We signed up with DotMailer as our ESP (Email Service Provider) August 2015. In that time we've launched onboarding campaigns, abandoned cart journey, and produced just under $350,000.

Over this time we've battled with the DotMailer module for Magento and its integration into our system. Recently I got all of their endpoints do display the proper information and have the correct styles. In addition to fixing up their endpoints, I created a bunch of our own so we can target customers and show them exactly what we want them to see without all of the effort of created image-based emails.

The Challenge

Integrate DotMailer into our Magento system so we can step away from our traditional (time-consuming) image-based email process.

  • Extending DotMailer's Magento module to work with our system
  • Adding additional endpoints so we can grab the data that we want
  • Opening up styling options so we can style the blocks just by adjusting the URL
  • Working in our web-sites basic structure to maintain stylistic integrity

The Result

I fixed up all of their endpoints that provide us with recommendations for customers' orders and baskets, best sellers, and most viewed. I also added new endpoints to bring in products such as "customer's also purchased" based on their last order, products that are pre-order, low in stock, associated with a lookbook, and also a custom list that's defined in the URL structure. In addition to pulling in products, I've also opened up the possibility to grab content from our UGC provider, GetCandid, so we can have shoppable instagram images right in our newsletters. As these changes are quite recent to the time of writing this, we haven't yet been able to field test the new features. But given our success with email already, it's going to be a game changer, and not to mention a time saver.
